Do you have use an autoreverser with the turntable?
@@spraymanandy1963 nope
@@spraymanandy1963 to elaborate, the Peco turntable has a metal track inside it with a gap, and as it turns it changes the polarity of the rails. I’ve turned sound fitted locos with no issues
It doesn't need to be connected to the internet, so a wireless router in a private network would be fine.
Can anyone please recommend a basic decoder for use with this Locomotech motor kit please??
Pretty sure I used a basic Hornby 8 pin decoder. I’m sure there’s better ways of doing it, but that worked well perfectly for me and it gave good slow speed control and was easy to wire up to the DCC bus.
@@chrisderby986 thankyou my friend, ill try one of those! :)
Coming to this a little late but this is exactly the information I'm after, thank you! Is there a way to show the route selected with LEDs?
@@PhilipFawcett-g6e yes, but not through the diode matrix. I used Peco point motors, you can add an accessory switch to them to control route indicating LED’s. It obviously means a fair amount of extra wiring, but it would totally be worth it in my opinion, and something that didn’t even occur to me at the time!
I'm just doing an N gauge one. I have a handy hint for you. A few years ago I made an electric focuser for a telescope using a very similar geared motor. Wiring is easy, 2x DP push button switches, one for clockwise, one for anti-clock. These motors tend to over run a little bit, free wheeling with the gears? When you wire in the switches, make sure "off" leaves the motor wires shorted, this acts as a brake and the motor will stop instantly?. Works even better on a core less. The simplest wiring leaves a problem, what if both are accidentality pressed? Simply wire a small bulb across the motor to take the load, the bulb will also slow the turntable a bit for you and let you know it's working?
Picking up my Digitrax DCS52 very soon. I'm swapping my NCE Powercab for this lovely unit after reading/watching lots of reviews. As for track cleaning... I have been using Inox on my track for a while now and I'm very happy with the results. Never any need to clean loco wheels anymore as the action on the loco traversing a section of track where I have used the Inox cleans all wheels nicely.
Would like to see the Recall button used. No need to constantly type in loco numbers.
I'm about to install the Locomotech motorising kit to my Peco N scale turntable. I will be using an ESU Lokpilot decoder and NCE PowerCab controller. Every other video I have watched show the Locomotech motor turning the bridge super smooth with no jerking whatsoever so was a bit puzzling why yours wasn't also smooth. I will let you know how it turns (hopefully nice and smooth).
I believe this motor can be connected to a DCC decoder allowing you to control movement direction and speed via an NCE PowerCab controller.
Correct. And that’s what I did eventually. It worked really well connected to a decoder. I didn’t use NCE Powercab, I used a Digitrax Zephyr Express. I do have another video showing this.
Whats the missus making?

Wow Chris your Layout is looking good. Lovely trackwork and Buildings. Most impressed with your dedication to get the details correct. Yes Modellers Licence is very helpful at times 😂. Looking forward to seeing the Layout develop. Best wishes Richard Canterbury
Thanks
If it's any help to you in the future. I find white spirits a bit oily. So I use IPA. It leaves no oily traces, evaporates quite quickly and is safe to clean electrical items too. Like the layout progress. Keep up the good work.
I have the older DCS 51 and love it. Will. Upgrade to the DCS. 52 and then use my 51 as an extra controller.
I just got one and fitted it and it works really well brilliant motor well worth the money
Hi could you tell me what the 3d printed point motor switching kit . Thanks David Stead
I got them off eBay, so not sure who makes them
Hi again do you know what eBay seller you got them of
@@davidstead4048 sorry I don’t, it was over 2 years ago
I find with different types of couplings it all depends if you have set curves or not if you got K-des on or screw couplings for Ho-Oo my layout I have Filex track to make my own curves which is easier Bill
I’m sorry, I’m not entirely sure I understand. I used flexi track for Richmond, and Kadee couplings are designed to work with any curves, whether they’re setrack or flexible. So no, it doesn’t depend at all.
I have the Digitrax Zephyr express DCS52. This controller has a "steal" locomotive function. Somehow, I managed to engage this function, and now I have three locomotives that I can not run unless I "steal" them. Could you tell me how I could disengage this function? You can't contact the company, and their help desk is of no help, and their tech support site has nothing on disengaging the steal function. I found nothing on engaging or disengaging the steal function on their manuals. Thanks.
The best thing to do is probably press the reset button on the back of the controller. The controller thinks that the address you’re selecting is already in use by another throttle. There’s also a chance that you have two locomotives with the same address and this may have triggered steal mode, or you may have inadvertently given them the same address. Make sure also that your DCC power bus is connected to ‘rail A and rail B’ and not ‘prog A and prog B’. Hope this helps.
I am new to DCC , would this work ok with Hornby DCC trains?
Yes, it’s compatible with any DCC locomotives
please in your next video please please please STOP MUMBELLING
You watched the entire video? I had a cold and was struggling to speak.
Finally a very clear description. Very well done. Thank you.
Can this control multiple trains independently or is that a more advanced system
Brilliant 👍💯👍
Thanks for sharing, I've ordered one too👍😊😊✌️
I had ordered the Locomotech motor kit a couple of days ago. My first time I have ever ordered anything online from the UK going to Australia. I spoke with Rupert from Locomotech, seems like a nice chap.
very useful review
Hi great video. I have just started rebuilding my OO layout and would like to go down this road. My controller is the same as yours so need to find out how to link the point motors to it. Up till now I've used gauge master P1 with the built in switch and Peco electrofrog points so will these work with this module. Before i just wired them to a switch via a CDU and as long as the points were central they worked great. I am new to the advanced electronics side of DCC but at 74 I want to make things easer for my self so any advice would be great. Chris
It’s really easy to set up DCC point control, you don’t have to do anything to set them up with the controller. I used mostly DCC Concepts solenoid point motor decoders, they couldn’t be any easier to set up. With pretty much all point decoders you have to set them up one at a time, you stick the decoder into set up mode(or whatever set up situation the manufacturer states), assign the number on the co troller as you would if you were changing the point, and end set up mode. That’s pretty much it.
Ive seen this kit and am tempted to get it. However i suspect it is very fiddly. I fear this video took minutes to watch but hours to film with alot of swearing cut out haha ;) ;)
Your fears are sadly correct! It was a damned fiddly job, but the end result is well worth it!
Can you also control the train with the zephyr at the same time it is running with JMRI ?
You certainly can
The running session videos I like the most, although introducing the class 40 and 2 others was also nice, incl;uding the comments. ;-) I hope you will watch my review of 2021! ??
Hi Have you tried a section of of plastic tubing? Worked for me with my 04 shunter
no longer listed on ebay
What?
@@chrisderby986 tried your ebay link and no page was found do you have any other infor on the switch I would reall like to get som thanks
I’ve just Ordered one of KT Models and carnt wait to see it in the flesh it looks amazing and very different and hopefully will work with my plan for a new layout. Good vid and honest also like the Richmond Station building witch bring back memories. You’ve got my sub keep up the work the format was good.
Hope you are ok you haven’t uploaded in a while. Great railway modeller by the way
Thank you. Sadly my circumstances have changed massively and the layout is in the process of being dismantled. The rolling stock has been sold off and the buildings will shortly be up for sale.
@@chrisderby986 sad to hear. Could you let me know when some of you goods sheds go for sale?
Sorry if I missed it but what is the scratch build called?
It’s a model of the goods shed that was at Richmond
This is Rupert at Locomotech! Loving the video! may I have you permission to include a link to it on our company web page?
Of course you can!
That layout looks great. I will catch up with your vids asap
How do I adjust the horn volume etc on this? I have a HO scale Later Phase F40PH from rapido and the volume is quiet compared to the other ones i have. Thanks!
That will be in the settings on your decoder
Please don't put your fingers on the paintwork when handling! I learned not to do that as a young lad in the late 1950's and haven't done it since. I found that fingerprints are very hard to remove completely, especially from the matt paintwork of recent decades. I've got the old resin kit model by the way and I thought that the original was built on a Black 5 chassis that was strengthened to cope with the high torque, though looking on the net now finds that chassis was based on then-standard British Railways practice, with specially made and shaped side frames, so perhaps 50/50.
I came across this video when looking at videos for DCC controllers but I must ask does it have a DC mode as well as the DCC mode it already has as I'm planning to run DC/DCC on the same layout I'm planning plus even though I'm British I'll be using HO gauge American steam locomotives
It doesn’t I’m afraid, but you can run a DC loco on it, I think using the address 0000, I tried it once and it worked ok
The extra space makes the curves look so much better! Nice work! :)
Thanks bud! Just wait until tip I put ballast down and start to add scenery
Nice update like it very much .Hope there more to come .Got my support.
Thank you, a lot more to come! Just got to fit it around work and family time
Great idea and great progression. Well done
Thank you! I’m almost at the limit with how much I can extend the layout now though!
Great update look forward to seeing some more - Mark
Thank you, I’ve got plans, but I’m massively skint for a while!
Hi. I should have liked to have seen before-and-after photos (preferably side-by-side) as I struggled to see what is different (well, it is 23:30!).
Watch the video again, and pay attention to the pen marks on the boards 😉
Based on your review, and the reviews of others, I have decided to use DCC Concepts for my layout, in combination with the ESU Ecos controller. Thanks for a great explanation of the point switching unit.
Thank you! It really is one of the best point decoders out there, and their customer service is outstanding
Hey there, did you change your channel name by omitting 'North Yorkshire' by any chance??
Hi yes I did.
Wow. That yellow drift of grass makes such a difference. Suddenly looks real. I saw your hand moving towards that wire in slow motion. Ouch! 🤣 credit to you for not editing it out!
Just a shame that it’s only one little corner of the layout! I left it in as a warning to others not to repeat my mistake! 😂
Why is your wall RED ?? !
Because I painted it red….
A great backdrop makes all the difference. Interesting video. I like it.
Thank you! I’m currently toying with ideas for the actual backscene
Interesting video Chris, really does look impressive when complete and something I’ll probably be using on my own layout so found this really useful, many thanks and all the best, Paul
I’m really pleased with it, and it shows that static grass is relatively cheap to do, and you don’t need an expensive applicator either. But just ignore the bit where I electrocute myself! 😂
@@chrisderby986 yes, must admit thought the price of the applicators was a bit steep to be honest so that is useful, thanks. Ha ha, yes will ignore that bit! All the best, Paul
@@UKRailsandMore I paid £20 for mine on Amazon(other sellers are available), and it was delivered next day. The grass and glue are cheap too. Look forward to seeing your results
